with the help of software it seems possible to recreate any acoustical instrument by using pysical-modeling.
recreating the instruments interface is much more difficult...

electroviola makes use of the built-in microphone of a pismo powerbook. located in the lid of the machine, it is able to grasp a wide range of nuances when bowed with a violin bow. this drives a max patch, emulating the physical model of a viola.

the violinified electronic is meant as a bow towards the master of the electrified viola, johannes fritsch, with whom i studied composition from 1989 - 1995. one of his compositions is titled violectra.
electroviola was created at the occasion of his 60th birthday in 2001.
